Hello, all:
Over the past year or two, I have noticed that there are two types of students in the studio:
As the studio grows and the needs of the students evolve, so too, must studio policy and procedure. Therefore, effective Monday, April 2nd, I will be moving to a ‘hybrid schedule,’ where I will offer both weekly, “standing appointments” on select dates and times, as well as the usual bi-weekly schedule that affords the flexibility that many families value.
Lessons will be available in 30 and 60 minute increments, and will be offered on the following days of the week:

The only change to the flexible schedule will be in terms of pricing:

THEATRE CLASS REMINDERS
Observers: parents are welcome to quietly sit in and observe class at any time. If a student’s siblings/friends/other minors wish to observe any portion of class, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Children and other minors may also not be left unattended anywhere on the premises of the WSCC.
Update on Winter Showcase
Our 2nd Annual Winter Student Showcase will be held on one of two Sundays in December: The 4th or 18th. I hope to have a date set with the Maker Theatre by October 1st (my preference is the 18th, as most school concerts are over with by then.)I am also looking to have the performance videotaped by a professional this year, so that you can have a DVD to enjoy for years to come. I am also looking at participating in a neighborhood holiday event, such as the WSCC Holiday Gift Shop, as we did last year, or the Point Breeze Light Up Night.
Theatre Class Activities
The Juniors are an especially young crop this year, with many second graders or those new to the stage. We have also welcomed new faces each week. We are focusing on learning basic music and theatre terms through theatre games, and singing and staging I’ve Got No Strings from “Pinocchio.”
Our Thursday students (grades5-8) have jumped straight into scene work, working on an ensemble scene from the musical Damn Yankees. This has allowed us to work on such theatre fundamentals as using tactics to get what you want from the other character, and this week we will begin learning harmony for the famous song “Heart,” which our scene leads into.
Private Studio
The new school year has also brought several new faces to the private studio, and on behalf of EEPA I welcome you to our family.
I would like to start a “duets” project with the private students to promote a little more collaboration. This could be a piano student who decides they would like to accompany a song for a vocal student, a piano piece for four hands (two players) and, of course, two or more voice students singing together. Let me know if you are interested in participating, and I’ll see what song ideas we can come up with based on participation. The end result could be performing these collaborations in the Winter Presentation, or having a separate, low key event at the WSCC.
Something to Sing About:
Over the summer, MT students Lydia and Dori were seen in Into the Woods Jr. as The Wolf and Cinderella’s Step Mother, respectively.
Voice student Rivky was featured in a newspaper article about the challenges that face Orthodox Jewish women who pursue careers in the music industry. She also just hit the recording studio for her first song, “Honey You’ll Survive,” with plans for a music video in the works. I can’t wait for you to hear this inspiring rock song!
In June and July, two groups of EEPA students had the honor of singing The National Anthem to open games for the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds, our city’s professional Ultimate Disc team. Click here for video from the festivities. The Thunderbirds have assured us they would like us to return again next season! What a compliment.
Did you get a part in your school play? Win a contest of some sort? Earn an academic honor? Let Jamie know so what we can be sure to celebrate YOU in future newsletters and on social media.
